Isochronic Tones Generator - Single-Tone Pulsing Brain Entrainment
Generate isochronic tones for focus, relaxation, or sleep. Unlike binaural beats, isochronic tones work without headphones. Choose a brainwave preset or customize the carrier and pulse frequencies.
Alpha - calm, relaxed awareness
Evidence base
Research on isochronic tones and auditory brainwave entrainment is preliminary and limited in scope. Most studies have small sample sizes, lack blinding, and have not been independently replicated at scale. Isochronic tones are not a proven clinical treatment for any medical condition and should not replace medical advice, therapy, or prescribed treatments. They are used primarily as a relaxation and focus aid, and many users report subjective benefits - but the scientific evidence for specific, measurable cognitive effects remains inconclusive.
Isochronic tones vs. binaural beats
| Feature | Isochronic tones | Binaural beats |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | A single tone that pulses on and off at the target frequency | Two slightly different tones (one per ear); the brain perceives the difference as a beat |
| Headphones required? | No - works through speakers | Yes - requires stereo headphones |
| Beat perception | Physical on/off pulsing; easier to perceive | Virtual beat generated in the brain |
| Frequency range | Any (0.5–100 Hz) | Most effective below 30 Hz |
Safety note
Isochronic tones are safe for most people, but observe these precautions:
- Discontinue if you experience seizures, dizziness, or discomfort
- Do not use while operating vehicles, heavy machinery, or in situations requiring full alertness
- People with epilepsy or a history of seizures should consult a physician before use
- Keep volume at a comfortable level to protect hearing
Isochronic tones vs. binaural beats (overview)
Both are forms of auditory brainwave entrainment, but they work differently. Binaural beats require headphones and create a perceived beat by feeding slightly different frequencies to each ear. Isochronic tones are a single pulsing tone that can be heard through speakers - the on/off rhythm is the entrainment signal.
Brainwave bands
- Delta (0.5–4 Hz) - deep sleep and recovery
- Theta (4–8 Hz) - meditation and creativity
- Alpha (8–14 Hz) - relaxed alertness
- Beta (14–30 Hz) - active thinking and focus
- Gamma (30–100 Hz) - peak cognitive performance
Usage note
Keep volume at a comfortable level. Do not use while driving, operating machinery, or if you have a history of seizures or photosensitive epilepsy.
