How to Estimate Your Electricity Bill
Enter each appliance you use, its wattage, how many hours a day you run it, and how many days per month. The calculator multiplies (watts ÷ 1000) × hours × days × rate to give you a cost-per-appliance breakdown and a total monthly estimate.
What Is a kWh?
A kilowatt-hour is the standard unit for electricity billing. It equals 1,000 watts running continuously for one hour. A 100-watt bulb left on for 10 hours uses 1 kWh. If your rate is $0.13/kWh, that 1 kWh costs 13 cents.
How to Find Your Electricity Rate
Check your utility bill for the cost per kWh. The US average is about $0.13/kWh, but rates vary significantly by state and provider. California averages ~$0.22/kWh while Louisiana averages ~$0.09/kWh.
