Scrabble vs Words With Friends tile values
The two games have slightly different tile values. This calculator supports both - select your game in the dropdown. It scores the letters you enter using that game's point map, so the same word can have a different total in Scrabble and Words With Friends. For example, QUIZ is 22 points in Scrabble and 23 points in Words With Friends before any premiums.
Bonus squares
A double-letter (DL) or triple-letter (TL) premium changes one tile before the tile values are added together. A double-word (DW) or triple-word (TW) premium multiplies the resulting word subtotal. When a play covers two premium word squares, choose the matching stacked option: DW × DW is ×4, DW × TW is ×6, and TW × TW is ×9. These controls model the premium squares for one entered word; they do not include scores from any other words formed on a board.
- DL - Double Letter: the tile's value is doubled.
- TL - Triple Letter: the tile's value is tripled.
- DW - Double Word: the total word score is doubled after letter bonuses.
- TW - Triple Word: the total word score is tripled after letter bonuses.
Check Bingo when the play uses all seven tiles from your rack. The calculator adds 50 points for Scrabble or 35 for Words With Friends after applying letter and word premiums. For example, one Scrabble A on a double-word square with Bingo selected scores 52 points. A blank remains worth zero even if DL or TL is selected for that tile.

High-value scoring strategies
- Play parallel to existing words: laying a word alongside an existing word can create additional two-letter cross words. This calculator scores the entered word only, so score each cross word separately when totaling a real board play.
- Bingo bonus: playing all 7 tiles in one turn earns a 50-point bonus in Scrabble (35 points in Words With Friends). Use the Bingo control for that play; the bonus is added after word multipliers. Building bingo-friendly racks by keeping a balance of vowels and common consonants can create more opportunities to use all seven tiles.
- Save S tiles: S is one of the most valuable tiles for extending existing words on a bonus square. Use S tiles strategically rather than just pluralizing a low-value word.
- J, Q, X, Z management: these high-value tiles can block your rack if you can't play them. Know two-letter words that use these tiles: JO, QI, XI, XU, ZA.
Word validation note
This calculator scores any string of letters you enter - it does not check whether the word is valid in the official Scrabble dictionary (TWL06 for North America, SOWPODS/Collins for international play). It also does not model a board or count cross words. Use it to check an isolated word or its premium-square math, then add any separately scored cross words when calculating a full board play.
Frequently asked questions
How are Scrabble scores calculated?
Each letter has a face value. Letter bonuses (DL, TL) multiply that tile before the values are summed. The selected word bonus multiplies that sum: DW is ×2, TW is ×3, and two word premiums can be represented by DW × DW (×4), DW × TW (×6), or TW × TW (×9). When enabled, the bingo bonus is added after the word multiplier: +50 in Scrabble or +35 in Words With Friends.
How do blank tiles work?
Blank tiles can represent any letter but are always worth 0 points.
Does this calculator include points from cross words?
No. It scores the entered word as a single word. On a real board, each newly formed cross word must be scored separately and added to the play total.
