What does the webcam test check?

The test shows a live preview of your camera along with its resolution, frame rate, and device name. If you have multiple cameras (e.g., front and back on a laptop or phone) you can switch between them using the device selector.

Common reasons a webcam might not work

Camera permission was denied in the browser - click the camera icon in the address bar to reset it.
Another application (Zoom, Teams, OBS) is using the camera - close it first.
Outdated or missing camera drivers on Windows.
Browser does not support getUserMedia - use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.

Your camera feed never leaves your device

The video preview is rendered entirely in your browser. No frames are captured, recorded, or sent to any server.

Permission management guide

Chrome: click the camera/lock icon in the address bar -> Site settings -> Camera -> Allow.
Firefox: click the camera icon or lock icon in the address bar -> Permissions -> use camera -> Allow.
Safari: go to Safari menu -> Settings for This Website -> Camera -> Allow.
Edge: click the lock icon in the address bar -> Site permissions -> Camera -> Allow.

If you accidentally blocked camera access, clearing the site permission and reloading the page will prompt you again.

Multi-camera selection

If your computer has multiple cameras (built-in + USB, or front/rear on a tablet), a device selector lets you choose which one to test. On some browsers, you may need to grant permission a second time when switching cameras. If a newly connected USB webcam doesn’t appear in the list, try reloading the page.
