The acre is the most common unit of land area in the United States and the United Kingdom. One acre is defined as 43,560 square feet, or 4,046.86 square meters. An acre is roughly the area of an American football field excluding the end zones.

The hectare (ha) is the metric equivalent used in most of the world for agricultural and land-use purposes. One hectare equals 10,000 m² (a square 100 m × 100 m) and 2.47105 acres. Large farms, forests, and national parks are typically measured in hectares or square kilometers.

To quickly estimate: multiply square feet by 0.093 (or divide by 10.764) to get square meters. For the reverse, multiply square meters by 10.764.
