How to use this tool

1. Click "Start Camera" and allow access.
2. Place your document flat under the camera (or use a phone camera pointed down).
3. Optionally toggle the simple grayscale Enhance filter for text documents.
4. Click "Capture Page" for each page you want to include.
5. Click "Download PDF" to save all pages as a single PDF.

Tips by document type

Different documents need slightly different approaches to get a clean scan.

• Receipts: thermal paper is thin and low-contrast. Place the receipt on a dark background and light it evenly to improve contrast. The simple Enhance filter can make text stand out, and the brightness and contrast controls are included in the saved snapshot and captured page.
• Books with tight spines: photograph at a slight angle rather than forcing the book fully flat, and press the page gently to reduce the gutter shadow. This tool does not straighten perspective, so keep the camera parallel to the page when possible. Scan one page at a time for best results.
• Multi-page contracts: keep the camera at a consistent height and use the same lighting for every page. Consistent exposure helps pages look more uniform in the assembled PDF. Use the preview sliders to adjust brightness and contrast before capturing each page.
• Whiteboards: stand directly in front of the board and try the Enhance filter if you want a grayscale copy. Avoid capturing harsh reflections from overhead lights; the filter cannot remove glare or correct uneven lighting.

Frame the page before capturing

The scanner captures the full camera frame. It does not find document edges, crop to four corners, or warp a page to correct perspective. For a rectangular page, point the camera as squarely at it as you can and leave a little margin around the edges. If the page looks trapezoidal in the preview, reposition the camera before capture; a basic crop can trim extra background, but it will not straighten the page. Curved book pages and shadows near a spine also remain in the image.

What the Enhance filter changes

Enhance applies a browser CSS filter: it converts the preview to grayscale, raises contrast, and slightly increases brightness. It does not use adaptive thresholding, detect text, remove shadows, or turn the page into pure black and white. The result can help ordinary printed text stand out, but it may lose color or subtle pencil marks. Turn Enhance off when you need to keep color or tonal detail. Brightness and contrast adjustments are baked into both snapshots and captured pages so the exported image matches the preview.

Your documents never leave your device

After you grant camera access, each capture is drawn to a canvas and kept in browser memory as a JPEG image. When you choose Download PDF, pdf-lib assembles those images into a PDF Blob in this browser, then your browser saves the file. The scanner does not send camera frames, page images, or the generated PDF to a server. Captured pages remain available in the current page until you remove them or reload or close the page.
