Why use a content calendar?

A content calendar helps you plan ahead, maintain a consistent posting schedule, and avoid last-minute content creation. By mapping out posts in advance, you can ensure a balanced mix of content types and platforms.

Content status workflow

  • Idea - Initial concept, not yet started.
  • Drafting - Content is being written or created.
  • Scheduled - Content is finalised and ready to publish.
  • Posted - Content has been published.

Privacy note

All data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. Export your JSON regularly as a backup since clearing browser data will erase your calendar.

Content types guide

  • Pillar posts / cornerstone content: long-form, comprehensive guides (2,000+ words) that target high-value keywords and serve as the authoritative resource on a topic. Published infrequently; linked to by many other posts.
  • How-to posts: step-by-step instructional content. High search intent; clear title format ("How to X"). Generally mid-length (800–1,500 words).
  • Listicles: "Top 10", "Best X for Y" format. Easily scannable, high social shareability. Works well for comparison and discovery content.
  • Case studies: specific, quantified results from real customer stories. High conversion value; builds trust with bottom-of-funnel prospects.
  • Social posts: shorter-form content adapted from longer articles ("content atomization") or standalone engagement posts. Requires platform-specific formatting.

Recommended posting frequency by platform

PlatformRecommended frequencyNotes
Instagram (Feed)3–5×/weekReels perform best for reach; carousel for saves
X (Twitter)1–5×/dayHigher frequency acceptable; threads build authority
LinkedIn2–5×/weekAvoid weekends; text-only posts often outperform links
YouTube1×/weekConsistency matters more than frequency for algorithm
Blog / SEO2–4×/monthQuality over quantity; update old posts regularly
Email newsletter1–4×/monthTuesday–Thursday mornings typically have best open rates

Content audit tip

Before creating new content, audit existing content every 6–12 months. Look for posts with declining traffic that could be updated and re-promoted (“content refreshing”), posts that cover similar topics that could be merged (“content consolidation”), and outdated information that could be harming your site’s credibility. Updated content often outperforms new content for SEO with far less effort.
