How hashtags help your reach

Hashtags describe the subject of a post and can help people find related content. A focused tag such as #RunningShoes says more about a post than a broad tag such as #shoes. Use tags that accurately describe the image, video, or idea rather than adding unrelated popular phrases.

Use a platform-appropriate tag count

Instagram's Help Center says a post can use up to five tags and that including more than five tags on one photo or video can prevent the comment from posting. For Instagram, choose three to five highly relevant tags. The platform presets in this tool use practical starting counts for TikTok, X, and LinkedIn; those suggestions are guidance, not guaranteed platform limits.

Read Instagram's hashtag guidance . Platform rules can change, so check the current instructions before publishing. Use Custom when you want a larger set for another platform or workflow.

X recommends no more than two hashtags per post. LinkedIn recommends choosing three to five hashtags for relevant Page posts. The TikTok preset starts at five as a convenience; it does not represent a published TikTok limit. Read X's hashtag guidance and LinkedIn's Page best practices .

CamelCase accessibility

CamelCase capitalizes the first letter of each word in a multi-word tag, as in #TravelPhotography. Those word boundaries make a tag easier to scan and help screen readers pronounce its words separately. Tags in the curated list that are already joined together only gain an initial capital because their word boundaries cannot be inferred. The switch is on by default, but you can turn it off if you prefer lowercase tags.

How suggestions are generated

This generator searches a bundled list of 20 curated niches and their tags. It matches your topic against niche names and tag text without regard to letter case, combines tags from matching niches, removes duplicates, and adds your topic as a tag. The Max tags field controls how many suggestions appear. For example, entering fitness can return tags such as #Fitness, #Workout, and #Gym.

The list is static: it does not query Instagram or report live post counts, popularity, reach, or whether a hashtag is currently restricted. A match is only a starting point. Review each suggestion in the target platform, confirm that it fits the content and audience, and refresh saved sets when your topic or platform strategy changes.

Check tags before publishing

Hashtags can be restricted or change meaning as trends shift. This tool does not maintain a banned-tag list, so it cannot confirm that a suggestion is safe or currently searchable. Search the tag in the platform before relying on it, and remove it if the results do not match the context you intend.
