Musical intervals

An interval is the distance in pitch between two notes. Recognising intervals by ear is a fundamental skill in music theory and sight-singing. This tool plays two notes in ascending order and asks you to identify the interval between them.

Common intervals to know

Minor 2nd - chromatic half-step (e.g. E–F)
Major 3rd - first two notes of "When the Saints Go Marching In"
Perfect 4th - first two notes of "Here Comes the Bride"
Perfect 5th - first two notes of the Star Wars theme
Octave - first two notes of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
