Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device.

How do I specify the new page order?

Enter all page numbers separated by commas in the order you want them. For example, "3, 1, 4, 2" moves page 3 first, then page 1, then page 4, then page 2. Every page must appear exactly once.

Can I reverse the page order quickly?

Yes - click the "Reverse" button to automatically fill in the reversed order (e.g. "4, 3, 2, 1" for a 4-page PDF).

Does reordering preserve form fields and annotations?

pdf-lib copies pages including annotations and form fields. However, cross-page form logic may not function correctly after reordering.

Can I reorder pages in an encrypted PDF?

Encrypted PDFs require a password. If the PDF is encrypted, reordering will fail. Decrypt the file first with a PDF utility.

Use cases for reordering pages

Booklet printing: many printers produce pages in the wrong order for manual two-sided booklet assembly. Reordering lets you prepare the correct printer order (4, 1, 2, 3 for a 4-page booklet).
Scan correction: scanners sometimes scan alternate pages in reverse when doing duplex (double-sided) scanning. Interleave and reorder the two passes into the correct reading sequence.
Moving appendices: relocate an appendix from the end to after the section it supports, or move a cover page without recreating the whole document.

Table of contents and bookmarks after reordering

PDF bookmarks and table-of-contents hyperlinks that reference specific page numbers by position (rather than by named destination) will point to the wrong pages after reordering. If the document has a navigational TOC, you will need to regenerate it in the source application after reordering. Named destinations (common in professionally-produced PDFs) are preserved correctly.
